Moving and Handling Assessments
Postural Assessments
There are a lot of conditions which lead to a person no longer being able to walk as they used too and are at risk of falling over and hurting themselves.

A moving and handling assessment will look at available equipment to support the person to be able to get from A to B with the least amount of risk possible.

Often this is done in a very prescriptive way based on someone's condition. As a practitioner I am risk positive and ensure that any discussion are led by the individual and what they want. There are times when it might not be fully possible, for example if the changes pose a risk to paid care givers but as a practitioner who has been in these circumstances many times I can help facilitate difficult discussions if required.

Posture is very important to body functions and your ability to complete activities.

My assessments include seating and in bed. One of the most common myths I hear is that a person who has dementia is destined to end up in that foetal position we see so often...this is absolutely preventable with early intervention and knowledge.

I use specialist seating and special cushions and pillows to ensure that the individual is supported, comfortable and function is maximised.
